
BCCI To Pay Tribute To Armed Forces at the IPL 2025 closing ceremony, which will take place on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The tribute is being given in recognition of the valour and victory of the Indian military, in undertaking Operation Sindoor, to protect the nation in the backdrop of recent tensions.
Operation Sindoor: A Symbol of Bravery and Courage
The function will be dedicated to the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, whose courage during Operation Sindoor safeguarded civilians and regained national security. The BCCI has invited the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, and Chief of Air Staff for the closing match and the special tribute officially.
BCCI hails the valour, courage, and unselfish service of our military, whose gallant efforts under Operation Sindoor keep safeguarding and inspiring the nation,” BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said in a statement to Sports Tak.
IPL 2025 Temporarily Suspended Amid Air Raid Threats

Last season, IPL 2025 was briefly put on hold for a week following attempts by the Pakistan army to carry out air raids. One of the matches, where Punjab Kings (PBKS) were to play Delhi Capitals (DC), was interrupted during the game at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. The players, staff, and spectators were promptly evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The tournament recommenced after the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan following diplomatic intervention, but some overseas players decided not to return, so the IPL governing council adopted a rule that allowed for temporary replacement players of overseas players.
Shreyas Iyer also honored the army forces in the first match of PBKS after the resumption of IPL.
BCCI’s History of Honoring the Armed Forces
This is not the first time BCCI has employed the IPL stage to pay tribute to India’s armed forces. In IPL 2019, in the wake of the Pulwama terrorist attack, the opening ceremony in Chennai included a military band performance and a Rs 20 crore contribution to the armed forces. The 2025 closing ceremony follows that tradition of respect and solidarity.
