Following the solid start, MI had 8.1 overs remaining when Suryakumar Yadav came in at 116/1. The platform was set, and SKY didn’t take long to seize the moment. He went on the attack against six of the first seven balls he faced, extending his run of consistent knocks – this was his 11th straight IPL innings with 25+ runs, a tournament record.
His 48 from 23* was full of intent, trying to hit boundaries off almost every second ball. One highlight moment was in the 19th over – a full-paced tried yorker from Jofra Archer became a full toss, which Suryakumar could manage to paddle over short fine for four, even as he fell to the ground with the bat flying out of his hand.
At the other end, Hardik Pandya was equally lethal. Utilizing his trademark strategy of staying deep in the crease, he punished deliveries that missed the blockhole. His powerful strokeplay and shot selection helped MI accelerate at the death.
