The Ireland Cricket team is considered as the 11th Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC), as well as the second Full Member from Europe who have been awarded Test status on 22 June 2017. According to reports, the team was elected to associate membership of the ICC in 1993, but they managed to play their first full ODI in 2006 against England in the build-up to the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup, which was their first successful qualification.

Over the years, the team has managed to play nearly 176 ODIs, which resulted in 74 victories, 89 defeats, 10 no results, and 3 ties. However, the contracts for players is said to have been introduced in 2009, which also marked the transition of the team becoming a professional one.
