KL Rahul On His Low Strike Rate, “Lost That Fun Of Hitting Boundaries…

KL Rahul recently opened up about his low strike rate. Read this article to know what he said.

KL Rahul is one of the most prolific batters in India. His performance in recent years has been a center of discussion due to his low strike rate in T20 cricket. His journey through IPL seasons has been a mixed bag. Despite him scoring between 520 and 67 runs in most seasons since 2018, his strike rate has often dipped, leading to disappointment. For example, in the IPL 2020, his strike rate went 129.34, and then hit a new low of 113.22 in the IPL 2023, even after he remained among the top scorers.

The criticism intensified during his captaincy in LSG. While KL Rahul is known for his calm and composed approach, his batting approach also seems to have calmed down a bit. He was eventually released by LSG ahead of the IPL 2025, citing his inability to adapt to the aggressive demands of the T20 format.

He’s now playing for DC, and she shared in a chat with the DC team mentor, Kevin Pietersen, that, “I’ve worked really hard on my white-ball game the last year or so. Big shoutout to Abhishek Nayar. I’ve worked a lot with him ever since he’s come into the Indian team.”

We’ve spent hours and hours together talking about my white-ball game and how I can be better. We worked hours and hours together in Bombay, and somewhere I have found the fun playing white-ball cricket,” KL Rahul added

KL Rahul Says, “Strike Rate Is Very, Very Overrated”

He also shared how he’s lost the fun of hitting big scores and said, “I think somewhere along the way I lost that fun of hitting boundaries and hitting sixes. I wanted to take the game deep, deep, deep, and that somehow stuck in my head. But now I have realised I need to go back… cricket’s changed, and T20 cricket, especially, is only about hitting boundaries. The team that hits more boundaries and sixes ends up winning the game.”

“So, back to enjoying my cricket. I am not thinking too much about the game, not thinking about taking it deep, or none of that stuff. Just see (the) ball and try and be aggressive and put the pressure on the bowler and the opposition and just enjoy hitting boundaries,” he added

KL Rahul further added that he thinks, “strike rate is very, very overrated.” He said about not being retained by LSG that he wanted to be “loved, cared for and respected” by his team, and that he “wanted to start fresh”.
