In a big blow for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), their enigmatic spinner Digvesh Rathi has been fined 25% of his match fee and issued a demerit point for his contentious notebook send-off to Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) Priyansh Arya in their IPL 2025 encounter.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) upheld the sanction, with Rathi having violated the IPL Code of Conduct under Article 2.5, relating to inappropriate send-offs. The LSG bowler received the match referee’s ruling without appealing the sanction.

The contentious moment was when in the third over of PBKS’ chase LSG captain Rishabh Pant brought in Digvesh Rathi into the attack.
– Arya survived an early scare as his catch was dropped at slip.
– On the fifth delivery, he tried a pull shot, and it led to a top edge.
– Shardul Thakur finished the catch, giving Arya the gate.
– Rathi celebrated by pulling out the notebook celebration, similar to West Indies’ Kesrick Williams, which used to annoy Virat Kohli.
Despite the wicket, Arya’s dismissal did not have much effect on PBKS’ chase, as Prabhsimran Singh smashed his season’s first fifty to take his side to a winning position.

Digvesh Rathi returned in the 11th over to take his second wicket, Prabhsimran Singh for 69 (34 balls) courtesy of a relay catch from Ravi Bishnoi, but to be honest, none of his hard work mattered for stopping PBKS from dominating.
