Nahida, Fargana, and Sadia Nominated for ICC Women’s Player of the Month

The spotlight in women’s cricket falls on Bangladesh as Nahida Akter and Fargana Hoque, alongside Pakistan’s Sadia Iqbal, find themselves nominated for the prestigious ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for November 2023.

Nahida secures her spot on the shortlist for the second consecutive month, this time for her outstanding contributions in ODIs, steering Bangladesh to a 2-1 victory over Pakistan in Mirpur. Having been nominated in October for her remarkable T20I performances, Nahida’s left-arm spin prowess earned her the Player of the Series award in November. She claimed seven wickets across three matches with an average of 14.14, making pivotal contributions with figures of three for 30 and three for 26 in the first and final fixtures, respectively.

Fargana Hoque, the opener, secures her debut nomination for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award after a stellar performance in the victorious ODI series. Scoring 110 runs, Fargana played a crucial role in leveling the series for Bangladesh. Noteworthy among her contributions was a valuable 40-run inning in the second match, coupled with a catch and a run-out in the field as Bangladesh secured a win in the Super Over. She capped off the series with a controlled score of 62 in the third match, ensuring victory and sealing the triumph.

On the other side of the contest, Sadia Iqbal, the left-arm spinner from Pakistan, showcased her wicket-taking prowess during the series in Bangladesh. Despite falling short of clinching the series, Sadia left her mark with economical spells in the early exchanges. The first match stood out, with the 28-year-old’s nine overs conceding only 13 runs, while she claimed four crucial wickets. Another two-wicket haul followed, concluding Sadia’s month with six wickets at an impressive average of 12.50 and an economy rate of 2.58.
