Understanding the Asia Cup 2023 Format

The Asia Cup has returned to its classic 50-over format after the T20 version in 2022, where Sri Lanka emerged as champions by defeating Pakistan in the final. Six powerhouse teams – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal – have been split into two groups:

Group A:

This edition will witness a total of 13 matches, including the grand finale.

The Super Four Stage in Asia Cup: What You Need to Know

After the group stage, the top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Four stage. In this stage, these qualifying teams will face off in a round-robin format. Ultimately, the two best-performing teams from the Super Four stage will battle it out in the highly anticipated final scheduled for September 17.

Be prepared for potential epic encounters, especially between arch-rivals India and Pakistan, as they could cross paths three times during this tournament: once in the group stage, again in the Super Four stage, and possibly in the final.

Where Are the Asia Cup Matches Taking Place?

In Group A, one of the three matches will be held at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The opening match of the tournament, featuring Pakistan and Nepal, was played at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

For Group B, only the clash between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka occurred in Kandy, with the remaining two matches taking place at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
