Yashpal Sharma was born in India on August 11, 1954. He played cricket all over the world. During the 1970s and 1980s, he was a devastating middle-of-the-order hitter. He played a significant role in India’s 1983 Cricket World Cup victory. In 1972, Yashpal Sharma got 260 runs for his team, Punjab, when they played a school team from Jammu and Kashmir. Within two years, he was an essential part of the state and North Zone teams that competed for the Vizzy Trophy and won it.

Yashpal’s career took a turn for the worst after performing well at the World Cup. He was dismissed from the Test squad in 1983–84 after performing poorly against Pakistan and the West Indies. After being dismissed from the Test squad, he participated in a few One-Day Internationals (ODIs) but was never invited back. He moved from Punjab to Haryana in the 1987/88 season and played for Railways there. After Yashpal stopped playing baseball, he tried being an umpire. He was a selector for two years, from December 2003 to December 2005, and was given the job again in 2008.
