Indian left-arm pacer Yash Dayal, who is linked with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and was instrumental in their 2025 IPL victory, has been suspended from playing in the upcoming UP T20 League by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA).
The step was taken after serious complaints, including a case of rape of a minor girl, were made, for which an FIR has been filed at Jaipur’s Sanganer Sadar Police Station.
Details of Legal Allegations
– The complaint states that Dayal raped a minor girl for two years and emotionally blackmailed her by making false promises about her cricket career. The first assault was allegedly committed on the girl when she was only 17 years old, so this is a case under the strict Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
– The Rajasthan High Court has declined to grant Dayal interim relief or suspension of arrest, stating the gravity of the complaint by the minor.
– The FIR at Jaipur is Dayal’s second serious legal problem: previously, a Ghaziabad woman had accused him of sexual exploitation in the guise of marriage, resulting in an independent FIR. The Allahabad High Court had later suspended proceedings on that complaint temporarily.
Effect on UP T20 League and Team Gorakhpur Lions
– Gorakhpur Lions had signed Yash Dayal for a price of ₹7 lakh for the third season of the UP T20 League, which is all set to begin on August 17, 2025.
– After the UPCA was notified of the new FIR, Gorakhpur Lions were instructed not to play him in the tournament. This action highlights the association’s position on player integrity and the gravity of continued investigations.
Yash Dayal’s IPL Successes
– Emerged as a top performer with Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022, taking 11 wickets in 9 games and contributing to the franchise winning its first title.
– Signed with RCB in IPL 2024, playing a major role in their historic win of the 2025 IPL season, taking 13 wickets in 15 games and starring in spectacular last-over finishes.
– Dayal has played 43 IPL games, admired for his left-arm speed and death-over courage, but his cricketing future now hangs precariously in balance with the mounting legal issues.
