India, a two-time finalist, has been passed by Pakistan to take the top spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings. After winning the first test match against Sri Lanka, Pakistan is still the only side with a perfect score. In India’s bid to defeat the West Indies in the second test match, rain played a spoiler. The WTC uses a percentage of points to determine the standings.
West Indies vs India
India easily defeated England in the first test match by an innings and 141 runs. For the majority of the second game, India was in charge. West Indies needed 289 runs and India needed 8 wickets on the fifth day. The visitors were the favourites to win the match as the ground began to favour spinners. 16 of the 24 points available were won by the Indian team. India earned 12 points from their victory in the first game and 4 points apiece from their draw in the second.
Sri Lanka vs Pakistan
Pakistan already defeated Sri Lanka in the opening match, earning 12 points. Pakistan has already defeated Sri Lanka in game two. Abrar Ahmed and Naseem Shah, who both took four and three wickets in their separate bowling efforts, helped the visitors restrict Sri Lanka to just 166 in the first innings. Pakistan played well with the bat. Till lunch on day 2, they have already scored 178 runs. It’s interesting that the rain has also appeared in this game.
The Ashes
After four tests, Australia is ahead of the hosts, England. Australia had won the first two games of the highly contested series, England had won the third game, and the fourth game in Manchester ended in a draw. Australia has already retained the Ashes urn, but in order to win the Ashes series for the first time since 2001, they would need at least a draw or a victory in the final game at The Oval.
