WTC Final: Who will win the Finals if rain ruins the series?

With the WTC final taking place in England, the fear of rain is certain to weigh heavily on the thoughts of both players and fans.

From June 7 to June 11, 2023, the Kennington Oval in London will host the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and Australia. Australia, captained by Pat Cummins, took first place in the WTC 2021–23 points standings with 152 points, while India came in second with 127 points.

Over the past few decades, the rivalry between India and Australia has generated some intriguing matches. In fact, two teams competed in a four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year in February and March. India secured a spot in the 2023 World Test Championship final with a 2-1 series victory, but the Australians gave it their all in the second half.

As the one-off Test is being played in England, many cricket analysts believe Australia will have the advantage in the World Test Championship final. India will, though, draw encouragement from the fact that on their previous two trips to Australia, they defeated them.

What happens if rain disrupts the WTC final 2023?

With the WTC final taking place in England, the fear of rain is certain to weigh heavily on the thoughts of both players and fans. The first World Test Championship final was also hampered by weather, but a clinical New Zealand won India by eight wickets in Southampton.

If rain forces a tie in the WTC final 2023 at The Oval, India and Australia would be named joint world Test champions, according to rules. The same rule applies in the event of a tie.

What is the weather forecast for the World Test Championship Final?

The weather forecast for the World Test Championship final phase indicates that the first day (June 7) will be cloudy but without precipitation. Day 2 and 3 are expected to be colder, but there is little likelihood of rain.

Even though the weather is anticipated to be partly cloudy for the next five days, there may be some rain on Saturday (Day 4). All four days of the Test will have some breeze, which should aid swing bowling.

Will there be a reserve day for the WTC final 2023?

Yes, the ICC has reserved June 12 for the India-Australia WTC final. The reserve day, on the other hand, will only be used if rain or bad weather disrupts the game.

If there is no result after five days, any time missed due to rain or weather circumstances can be made up on the reserve day. However, if permitted playing time and overs are used on all five days of the Test match and no result is obtained, the match will be declared a draw.
