WPL Auction 2023: UP Warriorz bag Deepti Sharma for INR 2.60 crore, Royal Challengers Bangalore pick Renuka Singh

Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh made a great impression in the auction after being selected by UP Warriorz and Royal Challengers Bangalore, respectively.

On Monday, February 13, the UP Warriorz bid INR 2.60 crore for Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma in the auction for the first Women’s Premier League (WPL).

Along with the Gujarat Giants, the Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians began bidding. The three teams battled until the Warriorz chipped in with INR 2 crore. In the end, the Warriorz paid a high price for the veteran.

Deepti was expected to light up the auction stage after continuously impressing for the Indian squad and starting with a base price of INR 50 lakhs. She was crucial in India’s victory at the Asia Cup 2022 in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Indian fast bowler Renuka Singh has been selected to play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and was sold at INR 1.5 crores. Last year, the speedster was crucial for the Women in Blue, winning the ICC Emerging Player of the Year award.

Renuka has performed admirably for the Indian team, particularly with the new ball. She has the most T20I dismissals against Australian batter Alyssa Healy and has stated that she prefers bowling at right-handed batters.

Renuka bowled three overs against Pakistan, led by Bismah Maroof, and gave up 24 runs at an economy rate of eight. Renuka has 24 wickets at an economy rate of 6.45 in 28 T20Is, with two four-wicket hauls to show for her efforts.
