As soon as the UP Warriors won the toss, they opted to bat. UP set a score of 177 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs, and the groundwork for building up the momentum for UP’s innings was laid by Chinelle Henry with a blistering knock.

Coming in at number eight, Henry smashed an unbelievable innings of 62 runs in just 23 balls, smashing 2 fours and 8 sixes. It was her blazing innings towards the two death wickets that lifted UP Warriors to a target score which was indeed competitive.

Other valuable contributions came from Tahlia Magra with 24 runs and KP Navgire with 17 runs, although UP Warriors could not lose wickets frequently.

The Delhi Capitals bowlers put up a valiant effort to restrict UP’s batting combinations but could not stop the great damage done by Henry’s batsmanship. Jess Jonassen was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi, taking four wickets for 31 runs in her four overs. While Jonassen was able, to some extent, to stop the flow of runs from UP, Henry attacked toward the end of the innings, maintaining UP Warriors above 170 runs.

Other bowlers for Delhi, Marizanne Kapp, and Arundhati Reddy coughed up two wickets each while Shikha Pandey picked one. However, with none of their great bowling performances from the others, Delhi Capitals had their task cut out in their chase.

When Delhi Capitals chased down a total of 178 runs, they did not manage to find any substance, which caused the implosion of their innings under pressure. She stood out for Delhi with a defiant 56, but it was of no help to the Capitals, who collapsed with the support not coming in from other players.

Their chase never really got off the ground for Delhi, who mustered a mere 144 runs in 19.3 overs. Each delivery was a steep hill to climb, and in a little while, they would fall short by 33 runs, yet another disappointment in the competition.

Grace Harris from UP Warriors delivered the spectacular hat-trick in the last over of Delhi’s innings. The hat-trick not only conferred UP Warriors with victory but also made her the first player to achieve such a performance in the WPL 2025.

The bowlers of UP Warriors showed their class.

The UP Warriors bowlers put in scintillating performances, with Kranti Gaur and Grace Harris each claiming 4 wickets. Harris’s hat-trick was decisive during this crucial spell. Equally, contributions came from Chinelle Henry and Deepti Sharma for the wicket each, ensuring a complete and dominating bowling performance that lacked no aggression.

There was never a phase during the chase, wherein Delhi could stage a comeback. The UP bowlers picked constant wickets, maintaining the pressure on the Capitals.

UP Warriors’ All-around Victory

UP Warriors, through an all-around smashing display of Grace Harris’ hat-trick and Chinelle Henry’s aggressive batting, proved to be too strong for Delhi Capitals. Although Rodrigues tried her best, Delhi could not reach the target of 178 and was eventually bowled out for 144.

This is yet another important win for UP Warriors in WPL 2025 with a comfortable margin; it illustrates their versatility in batting and bowling. Delhi Capitals will have to take stock of themselves and assess how to change things around for the next match.

The highlight of the game was undoubtedly Grace Harris’ hat-trick, establishing her as one of the players of the tournament in this competition.
