WPL 2025 RCB vs MI: Amanjot Seals The Victory For MI

Amanjot and Kamalini Seal Thrilling Win for Mumbai Indians in WPL RCB vs MI 2025.

WPL 2025 RCB vs MI: In a nail-biting match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, MI won by four wickets, continuing the trend in the season where the practice has been to win the toss, bat first, and win the game. Although there was an excellent performance from Ellyse Perry, RCB lost the match while chasing, and MI completed the chase of 168 with only two balls left.

MI’s Bowling Tight Limits RCB to 167/7

Winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, Mumbai Indians showed some solid defense and limited Royal Challengers Bangalore to 167 for 7. RCB’s innings were run mainly by Ellyse Perry, scoring a stupendous 81 runs from 43 balls, but MI bowlers could reel in RCB after the initial fireworks.

In the game, MI’s bowlers remained consistent and applied pressure to RCB, and restricted the flow of boundaries during the middle overs. Even after Perry’s toughness, MI’s formidable bowling line-up, featuring Nat Sciver-Brunt, Shabnim Ismail, and Amanjot Kaur, provided timely dismissals and never gave RCB the chance to create an explosive platform.

One of the most exciting matchups in the game was the battle between MI’s fastest bowler, Shabnim Ismail, and RCB’s captain, Smriti Mandhana. Ismail was immediately on the attack, targeting Mandhana with a short ball, which she mistimed into the hands of mid-on.

However, Mandhana, known for her adaptability, quickly adjusted to the pace of the pitch and the bowler. After a couple of balls, she pulled Ismail’s short delivery over square leg for a four, signaling her intent.

Ismail responded by switching to around the wicket, trying another short ball. Mandhana was unfazed and pulled it again to reach another boundary. Despite being troubled by the pace, Mandhana took on Nat Sciver-Brunt in the following overs, using her feet to strike a **straight six. She also punished Ismail for erring in line by cutting her to the point boundary for two fours.

But the final laugh belonged to Ismail, who made a vital breakthrough by getting Mandhana out and caught behind. The MI pace bowler’s persistence eventually paid off, dismissing Mandhana for 14 off 10 balls and leaving RCB struggling.

Despite the loss, Ellyse Perry was the standout performer for Royal Challengers Bangalore. After a blistering start, Perry picked up the pace and made her presence felt throughout the innings. She opened her account with a first-ball four, flicking Ismail over square leg. Perry then launched Sciver-Brunt over long-on for a maximum and followed it up with a series of powerful shots.

However, MI’s bowlers struck back, taking quick wickets to reduce RCB to 62 for 4 after nine overs. Despite a brief partnership between Perry and Richa Ghosh (who contributed 28 runs off 25 balls), MI continued to apply pressure. Perry, though, showed her experience by accumulating five more boundaries alongside Ghosh, helping RCB recover from a difficult position.

Perry’s fifty came off just 30 balls and was highlighted by some majestic shots, including a massive six-over long-on off Amelia Kerr. She continued to dominate, hitting two more fours off Matthews. But her resistance ended when she was dismissed by Amanjot Kaur in the penultimate over, after hitting two boundaries off the bowler. Perry finished her knock on 81 runs, but it wasn’t enough to prevent MI from clinching the win.

RCB’s Collapse After Perry’s Effort

RCB’s batting, which had started with so much promise, crumbled under the pressure of MI’s disciplined bowling attack. After Perry’s dismissal, RCB’s tailenders couldn’t put up much of a fight. The loss of Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Raghvi Bist, and Kanika Ahuja earlier in the innings had left RCB with a difficult task, and despite some solid contributions from Ghosh and Perry, they fell well short of the target.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s Half-Century Keeps MI in Control

Pursuing a target of 168, MI’s chase was off to a good beginning, supported by the best powerplay of the season. At 66 for 2 in the first six overs, they were going great guns.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur anchored the innings with a smooth half-century that kept MI in control. Kaur’s maturity and leadership with the bat kept MI on track, though Georgia Wareham came close to spoiling their pursuit when she sent both Kaur and S Sajana back in consecutive balls in the 18th over.

The game was on the brink of a thrilling finish with MI needing 22 runs off 12 balls. That’s when Amanjot Kaur took charge. With two powerful sixes off Kanika Ahuja, the equation was brought down to a manageable run-a-ball in the final over. The tension mounted as it came down to two runs needed from two balls, and G Kamalini sealed the win for MI with a crisp cover drive off Ekta Bisht. MI chased down the target successfully, marking another hard-fought victory in the WPL 2025.
