WIPL 2023: Who will win the bidding battle as 17 entities compete for Women’s team, including 7 IPL franchises?

With the Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) slated to begin its first season in March, 17 entities, including seven IPL franchises, are competing for a Women’s squad.

The names of the five franchises in the Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) will be revealed today, kicking off the inaugural season (January 25). Seven India Premier League (IPL) teams are among the 17 entities that have placed bids for five teams. Adanis and Ambanis are expected to be among the high-profile bidders for a WIPL franchise.

How will the procedure be carried out?

The WIPL franchise auctions will take place on Wednesday (January 25) afternoon, with representatives from all 17 corporations in attendance. A close bid method will be used to identify the auction winners and who will receive a WIPL franchise.

The BCCI listed an important eligibility condition for bidding as part of clearing the technical-bid process: bidders must have an audited net worth of at least INR 1000 crore as of March 31, 2022.

The technical bids were submitted on Monday by the Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals. The teams have a large fan base and will want to extend it after investing substantially in the SA20 in South Africa and the ILT20 in the UAE.

Who are the top bidders?

Adani Group, Capri Global, Haldiram’s Group, Torrent Pharma, Apollo Pipes, Amrit Leela Enterprises, Shriram Group, and Slingshot 369 Ventures Private Limited are among the companies that may submit financial offers.

Each WIPL match is worth Rs 7 crore

The WIPL’s broadcasting rights were recently sold to Viacom 18 for a whopping Rs 951 crore. The agreement values each WIPL match at Rs 7 crore, marking another another significant milestone in the women’s game.
