Why is USA cricketer Kyle Phillip suspended from bowling?

USA cricketer Kyle Phillip has been given a suspension from the ICC restricting him from bowling in international cricket.

The ICC suspended USA cricketer Kyle Phillip for bowling in international matches after determining that his action was illegal. This was another setback for the American team was the 26-year-old fast bowler’s suspension. They have already lost all three of their games in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers, placing them at the bottom of their group.

Why was Kyle Phillip suspended?

The ICC match officials became aware of Phillip’s action following the June 18 encounter between the United States and the West Indies. Phillip recorded great stats of 3 for 56 in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers’ first game. The West Indian opener Kyle Mayers was taken out by the right-arm fast bowler. Later on in the match, he got the crucial wicket of Jason Holder, who was batting at 56, and two balls later, he ended the West Indies’ batting by getting Alzarri Joseph.

The ICC match officials began watching the video of his bowling action after this match. He then participated in the match against Nepal, where he failed to pick up a wicket and allowed 49 runs to be scored in his seven overs. He was benched for Ali Khan, the top fast bowler for the USA, in yesterday’s match against the Netherlands. In addition, Ali Khan was serving a two-match penalty for violating the ICC code of conduct.

The ICC said, “The Event Panel reviewed match footage of Phillip’s bowling action and concluded that he employs an illegal bowling action and as such, in accordance with Article 6.7 of the regulations, he is suspended from bowling in international cricket.”

Article 6.7 states that if the ‘Event Panel Report concludes that the Player uses an Illegal Bowling Action, the Player shall be immediately suspended from bowling in International Cricket’

What does it mean for USA and Kyle Phillip?

Even with a victory over Zimbabwe, the USA squad, who are now last in their group in the World Cup Qualifiers, will not advance to the Super Six, ending their hopes of competing in the Cricket World Cup.

If Kyle Phillip wants to resume bowling in international cricket, he must submit a reevaluation of his performance.
