Sandeep Sharma of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) kept his cool to unleash a brilliant yorker against MS Dhoni, helping his team win a last-ball thriller against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
In the absence of Trent Boult, he emerged as an unlikely hero for the Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday (April 12) night at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium. Surprisingly, Sandeep Sharma did not make the Rajasthan Royals team.
The pacer failed to find a buyer in the December mini auction. Last month, RR signed him as a substitute for the injured Prasidh Krishna. Sandeep Sharma was chosen by the Rajasthan Royals for a base fee of 50 lakhs.
It proved to be an excellent decision, as the experienced IPL bowler returned the franchise’s confidence with solid performances in both matches he has played thus far.
Sandeep talked up about his mind process leading up to the last over of the chase following the match. He said that he had developed separate strategies for Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni.
He said, “I wanted to execute my yorkers in the last over. I was bowling them in the nets. There were a couple of low full tosses and both went for sixes. After that I decided to go around the wicket. To Jaddu bhai I bowled over the wicket. He hit Jason very well when he bowled around the wicket. For Mahi bhai, I wanted to change the angle.”
