What Is India Missing In Their World Cup Squad?

The Men in Blue lack genuine all-rounders, barring Hardik Pandya

Indian cricket team lacks a vital component in their T20 squad. It is the presence of a genuine spin all-rounder. Every other team has such an option. But unfortunately, India does not have one such talent in the line-up. Instead, India has two spin bowlers with average batting capabilities. However, it is not sure if both of them will play together. India has got Hardik Pandya, who could be their fifth or sixth bowler.

Why did India miss one spin all-rounder? At present, India lacks talent in this department. Earlier, the team had players who could handle their group’s batting and bowling responsibilities. Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, Suresh Raina, and Virender Sehwag used to throw their arm. But it is not the case anymore.

Whom does India miss the most?

Star all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja is an unavoidable member of the present squad. The experienced cricketer hit a freak injury during the Asia Cup. Presently, he is undergoing recovery at the National Cricket Academy.

Jadeja was India’s number-five batter and spin bowler. He could have been effective in both roles. The Saurashtra cricketer is an excellent fielder, too. In his absence, India misses a three-dimensional talent. If Rishabh Pant is not playing, India will not have one left-handed batter in their top six. Certainly, Jadeja will be missed in the World Cup.

Who may fill Jadeja’s void?

At present, team management is of the belief that Axar Patel can do the role handled by Jadeja in the past. But the difference is evident. Jadeja is a batting all-rounder and Axar is a spinner who can bat. He did not get many opportunities to bat in the run-up to the World Cup.

It will be unfair to expect the fifties from the Gujarat spinner. Axar’s role could be more with the ball, and he would hope that he delivers with the bat too, so that India has fewer matters to worry about in this edition.
