West Indies Announced The Squad For T20 World Cup 2022, Johnson Charles Got The Opportunity

West Indies announced their Squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 where the young skipper Nicholas Pooran will lead the team in the tournament

West Indies became the 4th team yesterday to announce their Squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Nicholas Pooran, the newly appointed captain for the limited overs format, is going to lead the team in the tournament. The highly experienced athletes like Jason Holder, Evin Lewis and Sheldon Cottrell are included in the Squad for providing extra strength to the team. The challenge here for Windies is the presence of only power hitting batsmen in the squad which can give 200+ runs on the board but on a bad day, they may also get dismissed below the score of hundred.

Johnson Charles was the hero of West Indies team in the semi final matcg against India in the T20 World Cup 2016. along with Lendl  Simmons he stitched the partnership of 90 overs which later proved as the biggest match winning contribution. Charles blade 30+ T20I matches for Windies and scored 724 runs with a strike rate of 121.70. It will be the second T20 World Cup of his international  career, so he would definitely eye to give some mesmerizing performances into it. The spinner Akeal Hosein will also have mountainous responsibility on the shoulders, as he will be the lone spinner for Windies in T20 World Cup 2022. His numbers were absolutely brilliant for Windies in the past 25 T20 International matches.

So, it will be really interesting to see how the young skipper Nicholas Pooran will run his team in the T20 World Cup 2022. In the last edition of World T20, West Indies performed poorly in the group stage and eventually got knocked out from the tournament early.

The president of West Indies cricket, Dr. Desmond Haynes said that, “We have selected a mixture of youth and experience to represent the West Indies. In the selection process, we have been cognizant of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and we have been looking at the players who have been playing very well. I said at the beginning of my tenure that I would be interested in giving players the opportunity and I think I have been consistent in doing that. I believe it is a very good team we have selected, and it is a team that will compete, given that we have to qualify from Round 1 into the Supe 12s”.

“There are players who did not make the team and I hope they will continue to work hard and perform to their best in the CPL and the upcoming Super50 Cup; because you never know what can happen in case of injuries or any other unforeseen situations where we might need to call up players as replacements,” Haynes concluded.
