“We’re Not Just a One-Trick Pony”: Former English Test Captain Talks About the Recent Success of the Men’s England Test Team

The former England captain Joe Root gave an interesting opinion regarding the recent achievement of the Men’s England test team this summer, where they beat teams like New Zealand, India and South Africa at their home

The star English batsman and Ex-Test captain Joe Root appeared with broader opinion regarding their recent success of the English test team under the leadership of new captain Ben Stokes. Recently, England have beaten the mighty South Africans after falling behind the lead of 1-0 in the series, as the South African team won the first test match at lords but later the Ben Stokes leading side bounce back in the remaining two test matches and achieved the victory in the fixture.

Joe Root scored 12 centuries in the past 2 years only in test cricket which made him an elite batsman in this specific format. But when it comes to analysing the total number of centuries, at the start of 2020, he had scored 16 centuries in total. A few months back when the fifth reschedule test match happened against India at Edgbaston, he stood on 28th century of his test match career and this is one of the greatest scales in the context of century making.

While interacting with the English media, he said, “We’re not just one-trick pony,” he said. “There’s always going to be periods in Test cricket that you have to manage well and smartly. We’ve not got it right every time this summer, but we’ve got it right more often than not and that’s why we’re sat here with six (wins) out of seven (Tests)”.

Later he added, “We’re definitely not the finished article but to see the strides we’ve made in such a short space of time has been really a breath of fresh air. I’ve never had more fun playing professional cricket,” said Root. Honestly, it is hard to put into words. You turn up every day and you’re very excited about what’s going to happen. It’s the unknown.”

“It’s quite a strange feeling to have played 120-odd games still to have that feeling when you turn up every day. It’s a really good place to be. Keeps you very hungry and motivated. You can bounce off the energy of everybody else who is in the same mindset,” Joe Root concluded.
