WATCH: Hanuma Vihari bats with a fractured wrist, plays left-handed shots during Ranji Trophy; Twitter Reacts

Hanuma Vihari demonstrated exceptional courage as the Andhra Pradesh player batted with a fractured wrist in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Indian cricketer Hanuma Vihari batted on Day 2 of Andhra Pradesh’s Ranji Trophy quarter-final match against Madhya Pradesh in Indore. Fans were reminded of his heroics at the Sydney Cricket Ground (CSG) during India’s previous tour of Australia, when he batted with a strapped hamstring alongside R Ashwin, who was battling a back strain, to deny Australia a win and the series lead.

Vihari retired hurt on 16 in Andhra’s first innings after suffering a broken wrist after being hit by a short delivery from bowler Avesh Khan. When Andhra lost nine hitters, Vihari came out to bat again. He batted left-handed and played some one-handed shots. Vihari scored 27 runs, but his bravery and never-say-die attitude were appreciated by many, particularly on social media.

Vihari batted with a damaged hamstring in the Sydney Test in 2021, which was later identified as a grade two tear, and helped India salvage an unlikely draw in the face of impending defeat. Vihari and Ashwin embarked up a match-saving 62-run stand, facing a total of 289 deliveries between them, to hold off the ferocious Australian pace attack, which included Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazelwood, and Pat Cummins.

Andhra Pradesh scored 379 runs after being called into bat, thanks to centuries from Ricky Bhui and Karan Shinde. After captain Vihari was injured, Bhui (149) and Shinde (110) carried Andhra.

However, both were out in the space of five runs, sparking a batting collapse. Vihari was eventually got out on 27. Anubhav Agarwal took four wickets for MP, while Kumar Kartikeya and Gaurav Yadav each took two. Meanwhile, Avesh Khan and Saransh Jain each took a wicket.
