Australia skipper Meg Lanning chose to bat first and amassed 161/8 thanks to Mooney’s 61-run effort. Renuka Singh and Sneh Rana each took two wickets for India.
In the pursuit of 162, India was in command, led by Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues. However, the side fell from 118/2 to 152 all out, and Australia eventually won.
Harmanpreet Singh top-scored for India with 65 runs.
New Zealand had earlier won the bronze medal in women’s cricket after beating England.
Harmanpreet talked to the press after winning silver and said: “Yes, it is an important time for all of us. We were playing for the first time, and the manner we played this competition was amazing to witness. We were on the verge of a gold medal, but we made the same mistakes we’ve been making in important competitions. We need to keep working on our lower-order batting. I am confident that we will do well in the forthcoming events. This silver medal means a lot to me; it will undoubtedly inspire young ladies back home “Harmanpreet explained.
Tahlia McGrath of Australia tested positive for COVID-19 before the CWG gold medal match, but she was permitted to compete.
“They did notify us prior to the throw that it was something beyond our control. We went with the sportsman spirit since she wasn’t so sick, we did what we had to do because it was out of our hands “explained India’s captain.
