Gujarat-based batter Urvil Patel, who recently went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega-auction last month, has managed to silence the haters with his stunning back-to-back amazing performances in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25.
Urvil Patel’s Impressive Form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25
Urvil Patel played an unbeaten 113 off 35 balls to help Gujarat defeat Tripura by eight wickets on November 27. After a quick 28-ball century, he impressed again with another stunning knock in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25.
On December 3rd, during the 92nd match between Gujarat and Uttarakhand at the Emerald High School Ground in Indore, Urvil showcased his exceptional batting skills once more. Urvil Patel smashed a 36-ball century, including six boundaries and ten sixes, against Uttarakhand at the Emerald High School Ground in Indore.

He formed a 72-run partnership with his opening partner Aarya Desai (23) and then added an unbroken 97 runs off 44 balls with Axar Patel (28) for Gujarat.

Overlooked at IPL 2025 Auction, Patel Shines in Domestic Cricket
With this win, Gujarat has strengthened their position in the Group B standings, having earned 16 points from 5 games. They are currently behind table topper Saurashtra, which also has 16 points from 5 games but a better net run rate (+1.869), while Gujarat’s NRR is +1.353. Both Gujarat and Saurashtra have lost just one game out of their five matches in the T20 competition so far.
Despite his impressive performances, Urvil was overlooked in the IPL 2025 mega auction. The 26-year-old had set a base price of INR 30 lakh for the auction but went unsold last month.
The Gujarat Titans (GT) had picked up Urvil Patel for the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League at the base price of INR 20 lakh, however, he didn’t get the chance to make his IPL debut. Urvil didn’t let the IPL 2025 auction’s rejection effect his game. Despite not getting an IPL deal, Patel maintained his confidence and continued his outstanding form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25.
Urvil Patel scored two back-to-back hundreds in the ongoing tournament, including an amazing 115* off 41 balls against Uttarakhand on Tuesday. With this new knock, Urvil set a new record for the highest individual score by a Gujarat batter in T20 cricket.
After becoming the fastest Indian batter to score a T20 century in just 28 balls against Tripura, Patel also reached another milestone by becoming the fourth-fastest batter to score a century in Indian cricket with his unbeaten knock against Uttarakhand.
