
In a thrilling match at the Entebbe Cricket Oval, Uganda stamped its authority, securing a spot in the semifinals of the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup African qualifiers. Going into the crucial match against Namibia, Lawrence Ssematimba’s team had their eyes set on a victory that would propel them into the knockout stage, and they delivered, winning by 4 wickets.
Namibia set a target of 92/10 while batting first, but Uganda showcased their batting prowess, reaching 93/6 to claim a well-deserved victory, as reported by Xinhua. Anyait Lorna and skipper Consulate Aweko played pivotal roles, each securing three wickets. Janet Mbabazi, Evelyn Anyipo, and Rita Musamali also contributed with a wicket each, strategically limiting Namibia’s opportunities.

Having initiated their campaign with a win against Rwanda, Uganda now looks ahead to a crucial clash against Nigeria on Thursday, aiming to top Group B.
Captain Consulate Aweko expressed her delight, saying, “We are very glad that we played as a team and managed to defeat a higher-ranked team in Namibia.”
In another fixture on Tuesday, Nigeria emerged victorious against Rwanda. The cricket action continues on Wednesday with Kenya facing Botswana, while Zimbabwe takes on Tanzania. The top two teams from the qualifiers will advance to the global qualifiers in Dubai next year, leading up to the 2024 ICC T20 Women’s World Cup hosted by Bangladesh.
