87 runs (RR vs MI, IPL 2013, Jaipur)

Mumbai Indians endured a tough outing on the road against Rajasthan Royals in the 2013 season, registering one of their lowest totals and slipping to a heavy 87-run defeat. Asked to bowl first, MI’s pace attack failed to make an impact, going wicketless as Ajinkya Rahane’s unbeaten half-century powered RR to a strong 179/3.

The chase fell apart almost instantly. MI were rocked early at 10/2 after Ajit Chandila struck in his opening spell, removing both Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting. The batting never recovered, with only three players reaching double digits. Dinesh Karthik’s 30 was the lone resistance in an innings that folded for 92.

A few years later, MI found themselves reliving a similar nightmare against Sunrisers Hyderabad. After failing to strike early with the ball, they allowed Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner to build a solid 85-run opening stand, setting the platform for SRH’s 177/3.

The response with the bat was disastrous. MI collapsed under relentless pace bowling, with Ashish Nehra and Bhuvneshwar Kumar striking right away to leave them reeling at 5/2. The innings never gained momentum, and wickets kept falling in clusters. Harbhajan Singh top-scored with just 21 as MI were bundled out for 92, losing by 85 runs.

They pulled things back well to restrict the hosts to 163/8 after Punjab looked set for a bigger total at 128/2.However, the chase was a complete collapse. Early breakthroughs from Praveen Kumar set the tone, and Bharghav Bhatt’s four-wicket haul finished the job. MI never found stability, getting bowled out for just 87 in under 13 overs. Not a single batter crossed 20, with Kieron Pollard’s 17 being the highest score.
