At the age of 22 Tilak Varma, Mumbai Indians’ batsman has made it to the annals of cricket history for scoring three consecutive centuries in the T20 format. This breathtaking score of 151 runs came off 67 balls against Meghalaya in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which was hosted in Rajkot.

This was his third consecutive T20 century and the first male Indian cricketer to score more than 150 runs in a T20 match. His performance puts him in the company of Kiran Navgire, the only other Indian player who has surpassed 150 runs in a T20 when she had an unbeaten score of 162 for Nagaland against Arunachal Pradesh in the 2022 Senior Women’s T20 Trophy.

Varma’s record-breaking feat can be considered to be one of the few exceptional forms and consistency he has shown in his game. Before this domestic T20 season, Tilak had already created ripples in international cricket with back-to-back centuries in T20I matches during India’s tour of South Africa. This achievement not only speaks of his versatility but underlines his ability to adapt and thrive in both domestic as well as international formats.

In a match against Meghalaya, Tilak came in at three and straightaway started dismantling the bowling attack. The very first over that was forthcoming became the perfect beginning point, and he went on to add more runs. His innings comprised 14 boundaries along with 10 sixes, which reflected his aggressive strokes. A Tilak onslaught helped Hyderabad post a massive total of 248/4, which became the fifth-highest score in the history of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and also the highest ever by Hyderabad in the competition.

Tilak Varma‘s innings not only raised the bar for Indian cricket but also reminded everyone of the wonderful talent that is cropping up from the domestic circuit. His fantastic consistency with bat in hand for T20 cricket has helped him get a spot in the top five retained players by Mumbai Indians for the season IPL 2025, thereby cementing his position as one of the brightest young stars in Indian cricket.

The overthrow against Meghalaya is another chapter added to his increasing legacy, and with the IPL 2025 around the corner, cricket fans are eagerly looking forward to knowing what more this young genius has in store.
