The remuneration of Sri Lankan cricketers has been drastically reduced, according to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). The board has proposed new central contracts for the players that are 35% less than those from the previous year. The COVID-19 problem has severely impacted Sri Lanka cricket, despite the board having increased player salaries the year before due to strong performances. The new core contracts for the years 2023–2022, which are broken down into four categories—A, B, C, and D—include a total of 30 players.
The Sri Lankan cricket squad has given the world some incredibly talented cricket players. The Board of Cricket Council of Sri Lanka (BCCSL), which generously compensates the committed, deserving achievers for their country, is also a part of the success story. The players in Category A will now make $100,000 instead of $130,000, and each category will now have three sub-categories, which is expected to result in a further reduction in pay. The participants in Category A will receive a salary of $100,000 for Tier 1, $80,000 for Tier 2, and $60K for Tier 3. Despite receiving a pay cut, Sri Lankan cricket players will still be paid according to how well they perform.
Sri Lanka, known as the underdogs of cricket, won the 1996 Cricket World Cup and have since continued their winning ways. Although they have been the most reliable team in the last ten years, they only finished second in the final in 2007 and 2011. In both 2009 and 2012, the Sri Lankan cricket team finished second in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup. The ICC Champions Trophy was also won by the Lankan Lions in 2002. The salary of Sri Lankan Cricketers depends on factors also.
