Chaos At The Oval: West Indies Delayed By Traffic, Toss Postponed

The third and final ODI between West Indies and England at The Oval has been delayed for an unexpected reason. England has already won the first two matches and is looking to win all three in the series on Tuesday, June 3.

Final ODI Delayed Due to Unusual Circumstances

However, the start of the match has been pushed back because the West Indies team got stuck in heavy traffic on their way to the stadium. The toss has been delayed, and officials are waiting for the team to arrive before starting the game.

Official Statements from Surrey Cricket and ECB

Surrey Cricket posted, X: “Due to a delayed arrival of one of the playing teams, who are stuck in heavy traffic north of the river, the scheduled start of play will be delayed. Once all members of the playing teams arrive, the match officials will coordinate updated timings and discuss any impact on the schedule of play.”

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the delay and said match officials will set new timings once all players are present. They said, “We will update spectators with the schedule of play as soon as we are able to.”

High Stakes for West Indies in World Cup Qualification

The West Indies team has now reached The Oval after being stuck in traffic but are still in the dressing room and haven’t started warming up. Meanwhile, England players were seen playing football while waiting for the toss.

South Africa and Zimbabwe will qualify automatically for the 2027 ICC World Cup as hosts, along with the top eight ranked teams. England is currently eighth, with the West Indies close behind in ninth.

This makes the ODI series vital for the West Indies’ chances of direct qualification. However, rain may cause interruptions in the third ODI at The Oval.
