The United States of America has qualified for the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 after rain had the final say in the team’s final group game against Ireland in Florida. The washout also means that Pakistan has also been knocked out of the tournament in the first round itself as the Men in Green needed Ireland to beat the USA for them to have a shot at a place in the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup.
T20 World Cup: USA vs Ireland
The Result
On the other hand, Ireland who is yet to register a win in the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup has also failed to qualify for the next round courtesy of the abandoned game against the USA. The Irish team had a very slim mathematical chance to march into the next round and needed a lot of things to go their way starting with the match against the USA which was a do-or-die match for them but with both teams gaining one point each from the match Ireland’s mathematical chance has also been vanished.
The Performance
If we talk about the USA, the Monak Patel-led side has lost one game in the T20 World Cup so far and has five points in its bag which includes wins against Canada and Pakistan in their first two matches which was instrumental in them earning a spot in the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup.

The Performers
As far as the performance of individual batters from the USA team is concerned then the names that stand out are that of captain Monak Patel and Arron Jones both of whom scored a match-winning half-century in the team’s win against Canada and Pakistan respectively. Both the innings were of the highest quality as they were played under pressure one in a high-scoring run chase and the other against a top-quality bowling attack which had the likes of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah Mohammad Amir, and Haris Rauf.

The Bowling
On the bowling front it has been a complete team effort from USA’s bowling lineup with all the bowlers contributing in all the matches the team has played so far. But the leader of the pack has been Saurabh Netravalkar through his spirited bowling performances against Pakistan and India, especially against the former where he defended 18 runs helping the USA earn only their third win against a Test-playing nation in international cricket. USA is the second team to qualify for the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup with India being the other one.
