
Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina is gearing up to participate in the inaugural edition of the Indian Veteran Premier League (IVPL), representing VVIP Uttar Pradesh. Raina, known as one of India’s greatest T20 players, expressed his excitement about playing in the IVPL, an opportunity to showcase his dynamic batting skills and captaincy for his home state.
Raina will lead VVIP Uttar Pradesh in the IVPL, marking a return to his roots and reminiscing about his formative years when he initially played for his home state. Joining Raina in the team are former IPL champions Rajat Bhatia and ex-Australian all-rounder Dan Christian. The collective experience and skills of these players make VVIP Uttar Pradesh a strong contender in the tournament, scheduled to take place from February 23 to March 3, 2024, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun.
The IVPL, organized by the Board for Veteran Cricket in India (BVCI) and managed by 100 Sports, brings together veteran cricketers, including Virender Sehwag, Munaf Patel, Chris Gayle, Praveen Kumar, Yusuf Pathan, Herschelle Gibbs, and more.
Praveen Tyagi, Acting President of BVCI and Chairman of IVPL, welcomed Suresh Raina to the IVPL family, expressing confidence that the presence of veteran cricketers will inject new energy into Veteran Cricket in India.
The IVPL will feature six teams: VVIP Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan Legends, Red Carpet Delhi, Chhattisgarh Warriors, Telangana Tigers, and Mumbai Champions. Each team will consist of four to five iconic players from around the world, including cricketing legends and regional stars.
The matches of the IVPL will be broadcast live in India on the Eurosport channel, DD Sports, and Fancode.
