Sunil Gavaskar is renowned Indian cricketer and perhaps the greatest batsman to ever represent India. During his first Test series against the West Indies in 1971, Gavaskar scored a truly astonishing 774 runs in four games, assisting India to a legendary 1-0 playoff victory.

Gavaskar, who was mainly a Test player, struggled in ODIs. After making his ODI debut in 1974, he struggled to replicate his Test cricket achievements in the then-shorter version of the game. He received a lot of flak for his 36-run innings in 174 balls, but this is how he batted up until his final ODI. Despite having a fever, he scored the fastest World Cup century for an Indian against New Zealand. Furthermore, it was his only ODI century.
