England’s innovative ‘Bazball’ style, showcased in the recent series against India, is gaining admiration worldwide, with Test great Stuart Broad praising it as a mentality propelling the game forward.
Led by Ben Stokes, England secured a thrilling opening Test victory by 28 runs, overcoming a 190-run first-innings deficit. The second Test witnessed a record 399-run chase, with England blazing out all guns, impressing cricket enthusiasts globally.
Stuart Broad expressed his enthusiasm for ‘Bazball’ in an interview with IANS, stating, “I love it. The series is one-all, but I think Bazball has proven that it can work in every country. Hyderabad’s performance is the most impressive of the England team. ‘Bazball’ is a mentality that is driving the game forward, and it’s very entertaining for the crowd.”
Reflecting on the entertaining Test matches, Broad highlighted the spectacle in Hyderabad during England’s fourth-inning chase and the West Indies victory over Australia at Gabba. He sees a potential window amid the T20 format for every nation to engage in Test match cricket.
Regarding Virat Kohli’s absence in the series, Broad expressed, “It’s a shame for the series that he will be missing, but India has won the last Test. Virat Kohli is such a quality player, his passion, and his fire, but obviously, personal matters always take precedence. It gives a great opportunity to young players, and someone in the Indian batting lineup will stand up at some stage.”
Responding to a query about his potential return to play, especially in leagues like SA20, Stuart Broad emphasized, “The way my mind works, I finish playing Ashes cricket. I don’t think you’ll see me bowling again. I’ve spent a lot of time here (SA20), and the quality of bowling is outstanding, particularly the left-arm bowling, which has lit up. There is a great generation coming through of young fast bowlers.”
