The auction of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League is going to take place on 19th December and before the Auction some controversial trades of IPL have already spread over the headlines. IPL is the second most popular sports league in the world after the NFL and the 16th edition of this league is going to start from March 2024. After the start of the league in 2008 IPL has come so far and successful. Efforts of Lalit Modi have been paid off if we see the 15 successful editions of IPL. Opening game
The first game of Indian Premier League 2008 was played between Royal Challengers Banglurur and Kolkata Knight Riders on 18th April 2008 at M Chinnaswammy stadium Bengaluru. In the opening, RCB won the toss and decided to field first but the Kiwi batter Brandon McCullum proved Dravid’s decision wrong as he scored unbeaten 158 runs in just 73 balls with 13 skyscraper sixes and gave an explosive start to the tournament. Brendon’s century helped KKR to score a gigantic 222 runs in 20 overs. Jacques Kallis was the most expensive bowler from RCB to concede 48 runs in four overs with one wicket. In reply, RCB didn’t event score 100 runs and was all out at 82 in 15.1 overs. Praveen Kumar was the only batter with a double-digit score from RCB and Ajit Agarkar was the most successful bowler from KKR who took 3 wickets in his spell conceding 25 runs. KKR has won the opening game by 140 runs.

Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI Punjab, Chennai Super Kings, and Delhi Daredevils were the top four teams which have qualified for the knockouts and the other four teams didn’t manage to do so in the first edition. Shockingly teams of the top three big Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Saurav Ganguly didn’t qualify for the playoffs.
Final
Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s CSK and Shane Warne’s RR were the first finalists of the season. CSK won the game against Kings XI Punjab by 9 wickets to reach the finals and RR beat DD by 105 runs to become the finalist.
In the thrilling game of the final CSK was invited to bat first after losing the toss and scored 163 runs in 20 overs with the loss of 5 wickets. Suresh Raina was the highest run-scorer in the first inning and Yusuf Pathan with 3 wickets was the most successful bowler. In reply, RR won the game in the last ball of the inning with three wickets left. After delivering a magical spell Yusuf Pathan(56) has become a savior for RR by scoring a brilliant fifty. Albie Morkal and Muthiah Muralitharan has taken two wickets each. RR became the first Champion of the Indian Premier League after beating CSK by 3 wickets. Yusuf Pathan with his brilliant all-around performance became the player of the game and Shane Watson with 472 runs and 17 wickets became the player of the tournament.
