In a strategic move ahead of the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan, Sri Lanka has made significant changes to its 16-member squad. Notably, fast-bowling all-rounder and former captain Dasun Shanaka has been omitted from the lineup. This decision comes on the heels of Shanaka’s recent struggle with form, evident in his limited contributions since January 2023, where he managed just one half-century in the ODI format.
Joining the fray is Chamika Karunaratne, who is set to take on the role of the vacant fast-bowling all-rounder position in the playing eleven. The skipper, Kusal Mendis, is accompanied by a dynamic lineup, including Pathum Nissanka, Avishka Fernando, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Shevon Daniel, and Janith Liyanage, the Player of the Series against Zimbabwe.
The spin-bowling department will be spearheaded by Wanindu Hasaranga and Mahesh Theekshana, supported by Akila Dananjaya, along with allrounders Dunith Wellalage and Sahan Arachchige. Dushmantha Chameera, Dilshan Madushanka, and Pramod Madushan will lead the pace attack alongside Karunaratne.
