Despite a challenging chase, South Africa successfully pursued a target of 271, with Adian Markram leading the way with 91 runs, including seven boundaries and three sixes in his 93-ball innings. The Proteas lost key wickets but managed to seal the win, thanks to Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi.
South Africa’s bowlers had earlier restricted Pakistan to 270 runs in 46.4 overs, with Tabraiz Shamsi claiming 4-60. This win marked South Africa’s fifth victory in six matches, moving them to the tournament’s summit ahead of India based on a superior Net Run Rate (2.032 versus 1.353).

Pakistan’s Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel contributed with half-centuries, but strong South African bowling led by Marco Jansen (3-42) and Tabraiz Shamsi restricted Pakistan’s innings.
The victory cements South Africa’s position at the top of the table, while Pakistan faces a challenging path to qualify for the knockout stage, having suffered their fourth defeat in the World Cup.
Shaheen Shah Afridi was Pakistan’s standout bowler, claiming 3-45, while South African bowlers held their ground in a thrilling encounter.
The intense match saw Pakistan’s innings concluding at 270, setting South Africa the target of 271 for victory.
