Sourav Ganguly Likely To Quit As BCCI President; Stuart Binny To Replace

Former Indian captain likely to be India’s contestant for the ICC chairman post

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is likely to resign from his post soon, as per sources. The former Indian captain is calling it quits, making himself available to compete for the ICC chairman post. Dada will probably be India’s contestant for the top post.

Former World Cup winner Roger Binny is likely to be the replacement for the BCCI top position. Former Karnataka cricketer has previous experience as an administrator. Binny was also a former selector of the Indian cricket team. 

Sourav Ganguly is making way

Sourav is the 39th president of the BCCI. He was elected as the president of India’s top cricket body in 2019. The 50-year-old Indian cricketer has been India’s full-time captain from 2000 to 2005. Nicknamed Dada, Ganguly led his team to memorable away series wins, as captain.

In 2002, India won the Natwest Trophy under his captaincy. The Men in Blue also entered the final of the 2003 World Cup, before losing to the winners Australia. He continued playing after his captaincy stint. Dada retired in 2008 during India’s home series against Australia. 

Later on, he performed the role of a cricket commentator before taking up the BCCI role. Ganguly entered when there were calls that the former cricketers of the team should only run the game in the country. 

What is next?

The nominations for the ICC chairman’s president’s post can be filed on October 11 and 12. The scrutiny of the nominations will take place on October 13. Candidates have until October 14 to withdraw their nomination.

The elections for the BCCI president will be held on October 18. The former Indian captain has a great chance to become ICC chairman, as India has a dominant say in the top body.
