Smriti Mandhana has made an impressive leap of two places to secure the No.4 spot in the latest ICC Women’s ODI batters rankings. The top three positions are currently held by Nat Sciver Brunt, Chamari Athapaththu, and Beth Mooney from England, Sri Lanka, and Australia, respectively.
Mandhana’s climb in the rankings is attributed to her consistent batting performances, particularly in the bilateral series against Australia. Her impactful scores of 34 and 29 at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium not only contributed to her team’s victories but also propelled her up the rankings ladder.
In the same vein, other players experienced shifts in their rankings. Ashleigh Gardner dropped three places to No.22, Phoebe Litchfield slipped two places, and Tahlia McGrath gained four places, reaching No.30 in the batting rankings.
South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt faced a downturn in fortunes, slipping to fifth place after a challenging performance against Australia. Her struggles against Alyssa Healy and company led to her relinquishing her previous ranking and paved the way for Mandhana’s ascent.
The changes weren’t limited to batters; all-rounders and bowlers also witnessed notable movements. Eliz-Mari Marx from South Africa soared an impressive 34 places to reach No.75 in the all-rounders’ rankings, showcasing the depth of talent in the sport. Australia’s Kim Garth climbed to No.36, while Alana King reached No.19, emphasizing the competitive landscape of women’s cricket.
In the bowling department, Marizanne Kapp’s exceptional performance propelled her to No.2, trailing only England’s Sophie Ecclestone and highlighting her dominance on the field.
