The great Sunil Gavaskar gave a few pieces of advice to the Indian team management regarding the shuffle in the batting order which they have to make only in the Indian T20 side for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Virat Kohli recently scored a fantastic century against Afghanistan at the Asia Cup 2022. The most crucial thing apart from this is that he made three figures while opening the innings for the team. According to Sunil Gavaskar, it would be a great option for the coach Rahul Dravid to let Virat Kohli play in the opening stance with captain Rohit Sharma and bring Surya Kumar Yadav at number 3 position.
Also, with this, KL Rahul can be demoted to the middle order after Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav are promoted to the first position in the order. Even Rahul proved himself in the middle order by scoring two centuries while batting at number 4. So, he has the ability to adjust at any position in the batting department of the team. Many cricket veterans like Gautam Gambhir and Wasim Jafar also gave suggestions to open the innings with Rishabh Pant in the T20 format but Sunil Gavaskar totally discarded this advice in his recent chat.
So, while talking to Sports 18, he said, “It does open up those options and you’re right, SKY (Suryakumar) batting at number 3 is a pleasing thought. But I have to say if Virat opens, he showed what a tremendous success he is as an opener. It means one of my favourite players will have to make way which is KL Rahul. Because KL Rahul, I’ve said this before, he’s an absolute class act. So, look, it’s one of those tricky sorts of situations but SKY at number 3, I think that’s what we want. His numbers you know and as rightly said, he is one of the best batters in T20.”
