Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill was on Wednesday fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during their match against Chennai Super Kings here.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Gill was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” an IPL statement said.

The Gill-led side suffered its first defeat in this edition of the tournament, going down to defending champions Chennai Super Kings by 63 runs here on Tuesday.

Leading an IPL franchise for the first time, Gill’s Gujarat Titans won their opening match against Mumbai Indians by six runs.

In a statement released by Indian Premier League (IPL) on its website, Shubman Gill has been found guilty for breaching IPL’s Code Of Conduct for maintaining slow over-rate and was fined INR 12 lakh.

“Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on March 26.” IPL said in a statement.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Gill was fined ₹12 lakh.” the statement added.

Gill took charge of the team and won his opening match on Sunday after Hardik Pandya switched to Mumbai Indians for another captain’s role. The young opening batter got off to a winning start when GT beat MI in their tournament opener a couple of nights ago but on Tuesday, Gill’s GT came second best.
