Shivam Dube, the rising all-rounder of India has been ruled out of the T20i series against Bangladesh due to a back injury. The T20 series of three matches will commence from 6th September in Gwalior on Sunday. Recently Bangladesh lost the test series from India by 2-0 played in Chennai and Kanpur.
In the India squad of the T20 series, Tilak Varma is set to replace Shivam Dube due to his injury at the back. Dube also suffered a side strain in the month of February which led him to miss the semi-finals of the Ranji Trophy. Dube was a regular part of India’s T20 squad when he returned to the national set-up last August.
Shivam Dube’s performance in the T20i of India
Ever since Shivam Dube made a comeback in T20, in the last 23 games, he scored 377 runs in 23 games with an average of 31.41 and a strike rate of 126.93. He scored back-to-back half-centuries against Afghanistan in January and was also a part of India’s T20i squad for the World Cup. In the T20 World Cup 2024, India claimed the title for the second time after 2007 and Dubey had an impactful cameo with the bat in the finals where he scored 27 runs off 16 balls.

Shivam Dubey picked a total of seven wickets in his period at the T20 World Cup 2024. The last appearance in competitive cricket by Dube was in Dullep Trophy India A vs India B. He bowled 12 overs in that match, that too in the first innings, and scored 20 runs off 14 balls.

Meanwhile, Tilak Varma has experience of 16 T20i matches, the last of which was the first T20 against Afghanistan in January at Mohalli. He is a middle-order batsman and a part-time off-spinner. He has been a part of Mumbai Indians in the IPL and was a promising batsman for the team in the tournament. BCCI release revealed that Tilak will be part of the T20 squad in their First T20 against Bangladesh at Gwalior.
