In a series against Australia ahead of the five-T20I series, Shimron Hetmyer has sent out a warning with five sixes in an over in a low-scoring match in Guyana.
A in-form Shimron Hetmyer changed the fortunes of Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Global Super League (GSL) 2025 match against Hobart Hurricanes on July 16.
Hetmyer thrashed his fellow countryman Fabian Allen for five sixes in an over in a low-scoring affair at Providence Stadium, Guyana. His 10-ball 39 was a game-changer and saw Guyana Amazon Warriors secure the last date against Rangpur Riders on July 18.

Hetmyer took his opportunities in the following over. Allen bowled it fuller and Hetmyer pulled it over long-on for a massive six. Allen came around the wicket. Hetmyer was unable to get the height, and Odean Smith dropped him at long-on. The ball deflected off his hand, and the ropes were crossed. On the third delivery, Allen bowled slightly wider, but Hetmyer reached to hit the sight screen.
Allen persisted in bowling in the arc, and Hetmyer swept it deep mid-wicket for yet another maximum. On the fifth ball, Hetmyer could not play a six but managed a couple of runs. Allen bowled a shorter one to end the over. Hetmyer waited, utilized the depth of the crease, and played it over deep mid-wicket for a massive six. 32 runs came off the 10th over. Warriors 75/3 at the halfway mark.
In the subsequent over, Hetmyer also thrashed Mir for a maximum. Next ball, he was caught by Jackson Bird. Yet, the Caribbean left-hander had relieved pressure off his side in the chase. The run chase was anchored by Moeen Ali, and with four wickets remaining and 21 balls to spare, Warriors crossed the line.
Hurricanes trapped in a spin web
Earlier, the Warriors bowled the Hurricanes out for 125 in 16.1 overs. Gudakesh Motie hit three times while Moeen and Imran Tahir took two wickets each. Allen was the top scorer for them with a 20-ball 28. Motie was awarded ‘Player of the match’.
Hetmyer regains form
Before the 39-run strike, Hetmyer’s record in GSL 2025 was 13, 12, and 14. Previously, he accounted for Seattle Orcas’ three victories in Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 with unbeaten scores of 97, 62, and 78 in run chases.
Hetmyer achieved the following record against Australia
It will be interesting to observe Hetmyer confronting the Australian challenge in home conditions. The five-T20I series begins at The Sabina Park on July 20. It is the same ground where the West Indies were bowled out for their lowest Test score of 27 in a pink-ball Test a few days ago.
Until now, Hetmyer has played four T20Is against Australia. He has scored 108 runs from three innings with an average of 36 and a strike rate of 121.34. His lone half-century against Australia was in 2021 when he played for a winning cause.
