Former Australian all-rounder, Shane Watson, has expressed high praise for Cameron Green, considering him one of the country’s “most gifted batters.” Watson believes that once Green refines his approach at the crease, his full potential will be unleashed on the international stage.
Following David Warner’s retirement, Cameron Green secured his spot in the Test team, occupying the number four position as Steve Smith shifted to an opening role. Despite an average of 21.33 in his new slot, Green’s innings of 42 in the second innings at the Gabba against the West Indies caught Watson’s attention, who sees it as just the beginning for the young talent.
“Cameron Green is one of the most gifted and highly skilled batters that we’ve got in the country as a young batter for sure,” said Watson in an interview with SENQ Mornings. He highlighted Green’s need to find the right method and mental environment to let his incredible skills shine.
Watson emphasized that Green’s journey involves understanding the right game plan and mindset to consistently perform at his best. Having witnessed Green’s fearless success in various formats, including the Sheffield Shield, IPL, and international white-ball cricket, Watson believes the right-hander will deliver exceptional red-ball performances once he establishes a consistent game plan.
“We’ve seen it when he’s had that freedom of mind at certain times in his Test career. But also in the shorter formats in T20 and One Day cricket when he’s had that freedom and understanding how to create that right mental environment,” Watson stated.
As Green prepares to feature in a three-ODI series against the West Indies in February, followed by a two-Test series in New Zealand, cricket enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the unfolding of his immense potential on the field.
