Shane Bond Joins Rajasthan Royals as Dual Role Assistant Coach and Fast Bowling Coach

The Rajasthan Royals have officially welcomed former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond to their ranks for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Bond will serve in the dual capacity of assistant coach and fast bowling coach.

Shane Bond, known as one of the outstanding modern-day fast bowlers, previously worked as the Bowling Coach for the New Zealand national team from 2012 to 2015, contributing to their journey to the final of the 2015 ICC Cricket ODI World Cup.

In 2015, he transitioned to the IPL, joining the Mumbai franchise, and played a pivotal role in their remarkable success, which included winning four titles in nine seasons. His coaching expertise aided the transformation of several fast bowlers into T20 specialists, including renowned names like Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell McClenaghan, and Trent Boult. Now, Bond will reunite with some of these talents at the Rajasthan Royals and work on enhancing the current group of fast bowlers, which features Prasidh Krishna, Navdeep Saini, Sandeep Sharma, Kuldeep Sen, Obed McCoy, KM Asif, and Kuldip Yadav.

Rajasthan Royals’ Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, expressed his enthusiasm for Bond’s addition to the team, stating, “Shane is one of the greatest modern-day fast bowlers and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our franchise. He has mentored some of the best in the business and has a keen eye for helping players improve. We are delighted to have him and look forward to his contributions in molding us into a title-winning team.”

In response to his appointment, Shane Bond expressed his excitement, saying, “I’m thrilled to join the Royals. It’s a forward-thinking franchise with a strong determination to succeed. The bowling unit comprises a great mix of youth and experience, and I am looking forward to working with them.”

The Rajasthan Royals also expressed their gratitude to Lasith Malinga, who has contributed significantly to the team during his two seasons with the franchise, and wished him the best in his future endeavors.
