Shahid Afridi – the star finisher of Pakistan and the former captain of the team in all three formats gave retirement suggestions to the star Indian batsman Virat Kohli. Kohli had recently made an announcement and informed about his likely retirement after smashing a fantastic century against Afghanistan in the last game of Asia Cup 2022. Shahid Afridi is renowned for his controversial statements which he used to give on big names in the cricketing world. In his career days, one controversy which stuck with him round the clock, was the unsurety of his actual age that he claimed.
Virat Kohli and Shahid Afridi had a good bond when they played together. Afridi was considered as the legendary finisher for the Pakistan Cricket Team. It is estimated that Asif Ali might overtake him in this aspect of playing cricket and prove to be a strong name in the game in the future as well. While interacting with one of the popular news channels in Pakistan ‘Samaa TV’ the flamboyant cricketer Shahid Afridi put forward his opinion on Virat Kohli by saying, “The way Virat has played, the start that he had to his career”.
“He had overcome struggles and worked hard before he made a name for himself. He is a champion and I believe there comes a stage when you are headed towards retirement. At such a stage, the aim should be to go out on a high. It shouldn’t reach a stage where you are dropped from the team. Instead, retirement should be announced when you are at your peak”.
“It seldom happens though. Very few players, especially cricketers from the Asian region make that decision, but I feel when Virat does it, he will do in a good way and probably end his career in style much like the way he began his career”, Afridi concluded.
