
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has made a significant move by appointing the cricket legend and former captain, Sanath Jayasuriya, as their full-time Cricket Consultant for one year. The 54-year-old icon will promptly commence his responsibilities, operating from the High-Performance Center at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.
Having played a pivotal role in guiding Sri Lanka to their sole ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup title in 1996, Jayasuriya will now play a key role in overseeing the players and coaching staff within the cricket program of the island nation.
In an official statement released on Thursday, SLC outlined Jayasuriya’s responsibilities, stating, “Under this role, Jayasuriya will be responsible for ensuring that SLC national programs achieve an optimum level of professionalism and that all players and coaching staff are monitored to deliver excellence.”

The cricket maestro will take charge of overseeing training and coaching requirements for all teams aligned with the high-performance center. Additionally, he will be involved in implementing individual skill development strategies, ensuring compliance with player reporting aligned with SLC’s athlete management system.
Among his diverse responsibilities, Sanath Jayasuriya will establish national specialist skills programs, collaborating with key staff in lead roles within each skill discipline. This move reflects SLC’s commitment to furthering excellence and development within Sri Lankan cricket.
Sanath Jayasuriya, renowned for his remarkable career that spanned over 20 years, boasts an impressive record with 14 Test centuries and over 400 wickets in international cricket. His left-arm orthodox spin and dynamic batting performances have left an indelible mark on the cricketing world.
