
South Africa’s premier T20 League, SA20, is gearing up for its much-anticipated second season, scheduled to commence on January 10, 2024. Launched in 2023, the league has already left an indelible mark on South African cricket, generating a significant impact in its inaugural season.
The league’s debut edition witnessed 33 matches over 32 days, drawing passionate crowds to stadiums and showcasing high-quality cricket. Featuring cricket icons like Faf du Plessis, Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, and Rashid Khan, the league set a thrilling precedent in South African cricket.
Graeme Smith, League Commissioner and former South Africa captain lauded the overwhelming success of the first season, stating, “Our inaugural season surpassed expectations, blending young local talent with global cricket stars. SA20 stands out as the first T20 league outside India with IPL owners for all six local franchises. Smith highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, “The involvement of IPL franchises elevates the league, bringing immense value and expertise. Their influence, coupled with experienced players from prominent global leagues, provides a significant advantage to young South African talent.”
The upcoming SA20 season promises high-octane matches, renowned players, and an electric atmosphere across six premier venues in South Africa. Broadcasting live on SuperSport (South Africa), Viacom 18 (India), and Sky Sports (UK), the league aims to captivate a global audience. With an increased prize pool of R50 million, Season 2 adds another layer of excitement to the competition.
