Indian batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad showered praise on Rinku Singh for his remarkable performance in the second T20I against Ireland. Gaikwad emphasized Singh’s ability to adopt an aggressive approach at the right time, showcasing his role as a finisher.
Gaikwad’s pivotal partnership with Sanju Samson (40 off 26 balls) was followed by Rinku Singh’s impressive cameo, adding crucial momentum to India’s innings. Their efforts led India to a 33-run victory over Ireland, securing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
Singh’s explosive 38 runs from 21 deliveries propelled India to a total of 185 for 5, a target that proved challenging for Ireland to chase. This standout performance earned Singh his first player of the match award in only his second international appearance.
During the post-match presentation, India’s vice-captain highlighted the lessons that young players can glean from Singh’s approach.
“Rinku is already a favorite among IPL fans. His batting maturity displayed in the IPL has been noteworthy. One of his remarkable qualities is not launching an attack from the very first ball. He grants himself time, adapting to the situation. He evaluates conditions before taking on the bowlers,” Gaikwad shared.
“For emerging players aspiring to be finishers, this is valuable learning. Allowing oneself time is crucial, and any initial struggles can be compensated later. Singh possesses the skill to gauge the right moment to accelerate. This innings was significant for him, his first in international cricket. This experience will undoubtedly benefit him,” Gaikwad added.
Earlier in the year, during IPL 2023, Rinku Singh had already established his reputation as a formidable player. Representing the Kolkata Knight Riders, he amassed an impressive tally of 474 runs in 14 matches, maintaining an outstanding average of 59.25 and a strike rate of 149.53.
