The Eliminator staged in the 2024 IPL playoffs saw a great match between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore where the former emerged victorious to book a place in the Qualifier match. In a grueling game chasing a target of 173 runs, RR had all the fight and ambition to see through a tense four-wicket victory concluding their place in Qualifier 2 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
RCB’s Winning Streak Snapped
RCB was charged with confidence prior to the Eliminator being it had an impressive winning streak of six consecutive matches in the last six days. But for the last it failed to shine in the aspect of batting during the important innings. Opener of Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli gave a good stand but others did not show the same intent. Enthralling innings from Rajat Patidar (34) and Suyash Prabhudessai (32) helped RCB chased, but a continuous loss of wickets confined the RCB team to a score of 172/8 in the specified 20 overs. Avesh khan bowled very effectively for RR, he took 3 wickets in 44 balls, he bowled a Yorker and used variations to put pressure on the batters. For RR Ravichandran ashwin also bowled brilliantly and took 2 wickets in 19 balls.
Royals Overcome Early Jitters
In reply, RR’s batting innings also sog into trouble early on. It put them on the back foot after getting rid of their healthy opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Jos Buttler who scored 12 and 45 respectively. Rajasthan Royals eventually stumbled, but their captain, Sanju Samson, contributed a valuable 28 runs to their total. Just when the match seemed to be slipping out of RR’s hands, Riyan Parag (36) came good with some elegant shots to keep the RR fizz alive. The flip side was good contributions from the lower order, especially Ravichandran Ashwin (22*) who added useful contribution and got more than the RR across the line with one over to spare.
In a manner that would remind many football lovers of how a football team is composed of two halves, the two entities showed distinction between two halves.
RCB entered the IPL 2024 Eliminator carrying six straight victories with themselves and on the other side, RR entered the game with five successive games that they played and lost.
With this thrilling win, RR has not only ended RCB’s dominant run but also booked their place in Qualifier 2. There, they will face the formidable SRH, who emerged victorious in their respective Eliminator encounter. This clash promises to be a battle between two well-balanced teams, both hungry for a shot at the coveted IPL trophy. The stage is set for another exciting chapter in the 2024 IPL playoffs, with RR aiming to defy the odds and continue their resurgence in the tournament.
