Rohit Sharma Cautions Team India Against Complacency in Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 Round

India showcased a dominant performance, defeating Nepal by 10 wickets and securing their place in the Super 4 round of Asia Cup 2023. Captain Rohit Sharma stressed the importance of remaining focused and addressing fielding concerns.

India’s victory over Nepal marked their entry into the Super 4 round alongside Pakistan from Group A. Despite challenging weather conditions that nearly washed out the match, the umpires permitted a 23-over game after India won the toss and invited Nepal to bat.

Nepal enjoyed a strong start with Kushal Bhurtel (38) and Aasif Shaikh (58), putting together an impressive 65-run opening partnership. However, Ravindra Jadeja’s three-wicket spell disrupted Nepal’s middle order. Sompal Kami (48) and Dipendra Singh Airee (29) pushed Nepal past 200.

Due to rain, India’s target was reduced to 145 runs in the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. Team India achieved the target without losing a wicket, with Captain Rohit Sharma scoring an unbeaten 74 runs and Shubman Gill contributing 67 runs. This victory secured India’s place in the Super 4 round and set up a clash with Pakistan.

Rohit Sharma, named Player of the Match, expressed his satisfaction with finishing the game for India. He admitted to some nerves before going out to bat but aimed to capitalize on his form and guide the team to victory.

While acknowledging the two games played so far, Rohit Sharma cautioned against drawing sweeping conclusions about the World Cup. He highlighted that there is no room for complacency in the upcoming Super 4 stage.

Nepal’s spirited performance in Asia Cup 2023 also garnered praise. Captain Rohit Paudel credited their openers but recognized that the middle-order performance fell short, resulting in a total that was 30 runs less than desired. Despite challenging conditions, Paudel commended his bowlers for their efforts, acknowledging the difficulty of gripping the ball.
