Rift between Virat Kohli and Rahul Dravid, claims Danish Kaneria

“Rahul Dravid has done so well for Team India. He got under-19 cricketers winning tournaments for Team India, but he was not going that well with Virat Kohli.”

India and Pakistan are solidifying their final prep for the clash in the Asia Cup 2022. However, amidst all the excitement, former Pakistani player Danish Kaneria has cooked a controversy. Kaneria has gone on a spree of publicly expressing his opinions. And his latest comment can be easily regarded as misleading and problematic.

Kaneria has targeted Virat Kohli in his latest statement. He opined that while Kohli worked well with Ravi Shastri, it’s not the same with Rahul Dravid. “Virat Kohli went very well with coach Ravi Shastri and he had a very good bonding with him. He(Shastri) used to back him. But now after the developments of Sourav Gangly who came in and then Rahul Dravid coming from NCA, he didn’t had a very good time. Anil Kumble was one of the finest spinners of India and he performed at the highest levels, but he didn’t had good ties with Kohli,” explained Kaneria in his elaborated assumption about the Indian side.

Moreover, he added, “Both Kumble and Dravid are from Bangalore, south of India, and both are like high-structured cricketers. They are like pretty big guns and Rahul Dravid has done so well for Team India. He got under-19 cricketers winning tournaments for Team India, but he was not going that well with Virat Kohli because Virat Kohli is like—‘If I want to do it, I will do it’.”

Ravi Shastri walked in as the head coach replacing Anil Kumble after India’s loss at the 2017 Champions Trophy. The Captain-coach duo of Kohli and Shastri led India to an all-time high in Test cricket. However, Rahul Dravid who led the U-19 Indian time to a World Cup victory stepped in after Shastri retired. Soon after, Kohli left the test captaincy. And the white-ball captaincy went to Rohit Sharma after the change in the red-ball format.
